A reader was nice enough to share their experience on how they successfully built their own eBike with some guidance from this site... I hope their story below inspires you to do the same...

Hello eBikeYourBike…

I’m a 78 year old guy who took your advice and successfully built out my own Beach Cruiser eBike myself and I wanted to share my story with you.

Here’s how I did it…

I bought a brand new Schwinn Sanctuary 7 Women’s Comfort Beach Cruiser Bike, 26-Inch which I found on Amazon a few months back as they had a sweet deal for only $91.00 reg over $375.00… So it helps to shop around and being flexible to spot good deal…And then I got the 500 watt front wheel motor you recommend on your site.

For the battery, instead of purchasing a specific eBike battery, I use 2 Ryobi drill batteries which I already had and are 3Ah each.

I also ordered two additional 6Ah batteries I from Amazon… Which increases the distance I can ride just by switching out dead for fresh batteries as needed… And I also had a striped 11Ah battery from a dead scooter I wasn’t using.

Using this “knock-off” drill batteries solution… Brought the parts cost down around $150.00 on top of the wheel kit. So I am pretty happy about the tolal cost factors on doing the build this way.

Adapters can be bought off amazon cheap that makes it easy switching batteries out on the go. It goes over 20 MPH and with the additional batteries, I can travel over 50 miles using the extra drill batteries and w-scooter battery 11Ah.

That’s a major trip for me and I feel really safe riding this solid Schwinn I built.

Another fun tip for carry a lot… I used a folding shopping cart that I clip on & off the back rack to go food shopping.

2 thumbs up!… I couldn’t have built it without your advice and instructions.

Thanks so much!
