Making Cold Weather Air Deflectors...
Posted: February 7, 2023
In my previous article, I wrote about the importance of having cold weather Air Deflectors for your bike during winter rides. These deflectors not only protect you from the harsh winds but also add a unique style to your eBike.
In this article, I’ll guide you through the process of making your own cold weather air deflectors using a few simple materials…
Step 1: Gather Materials
The first thing you need to get is a 2x4 sheet of corrugated plastic board, which you can easily find at your local hardware store for under $10. You will also need at least 4 strong zip ties, a cutting tool such as scissors or a blade, and a drill or sharp object for making holes in the board. If you want to achieve a curved design like my Orange Beach Cruiser, you will need a flexible ruler or something similar to create a smooth bend design.

Step 2: Cut The Boards
Cut the plastic board into two 12" x 12" pieces if you’re looking for a larger version, or 12" x 8" if you want a shorter one similar to my Black Beach Cruiser.
Step 3: Make The Bend And Cut
If you want to add the top curve design to your deflector, again, like my Orange Beach Cruiser… Then measure one side of the board to 9.5 inches and use a ruler to bend it from the 9.5 inch mark to the opposite end. Cut off the edge of the board along the bend line and repeat the process for the other board. Make sure both boards are evenly mirrored.
Otherwise, if you want the shorter style like the Black Cruiser Style, then simply continue to Step 4 below.

Step 4: Cut The Center
Do the same thing for the other board and then after you make your cuts you can roll up the cut section that is on the side that will face into your bike… Again, refer to the photos.

Step 5: Mark and Make Holes
Place the boards on your handlebar and make marks with a pen or other marker for the holes where you will insert the zip ties. Remove the boards and drill through the marked spots or carefully cut through with scissors. Keep the boards lined up as you make the holes.

Step 6: Attach The Deflectors
Place the boards on the handlebar, insert the zip ties through the holes, and tighten. Repeat the process for the other board, then cut off the excess length of the zip ties. You may need to adjust the deflectors to achieve your desired alignment.

And there you have it! Your very own cold weather air deflectors, ready for use on your next winter ride. With these deflectors, you’ll be able to enjoy the cold weather without having to worry about the harsh winds. They not only provide protection, but also add a touch of style to your bike.
